The 16th d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards and Exhibition is on in Mudgeeraba 23rd June – 4th July and is set to draw through thousands of people.

The Landscape Art Awards were established to honour artist d’Arcy Doyle who passed away in 2001.

Committed to sport and renown for his murals, d’Arcy is a famous Australian artist who’s works included The Cricket Game, Hockey Players and Taking it Serious. All depicting typical and “quintessential” Aussie back yard sport which is the back bone of all Australian sport today.

The Cricket Game d’Arcy Doyle

After a successful life as an artist in Sydney, d’Arcy and his wife moved Mudgeeraba in the 1970s calling the Gold Coast home.

The annual exhibition is considered one of Australia’s premier art awards with the main landscape category offering a $10,000 first prize is supported by emerging artists, professional artists and those wanting a challenge. Other categories include Portraiture and Still Life.

Judges this year include Anthea Polson, Joel Rea and Sam Cretyon. All established and well revered for their contributions to Australian art. More on the judges here.

Selected artists, including the author of this piece, Samantha Beau, will be holding residencies over the 12 days. A residency gives the artist an opportunity to show case their works, talk with people and demonstrate their techniques. Sam’s residency is 130pm – 5pm on Saturday 3rd July. Be sure to pop by and say hello and watch Sam in action.

With over 500 works hung every year and $20,000 in the prize pool, this is an art show to explore and enjoy.

Opens 23rd June and finishes 4th July.

Paintings at Tweed Gallery Cafe

January 27, 2020 by lorenz Leave a Comment

I am super exited to have my art on display at the wonderful spacious and inspiring cafe Tweed Gallery Cafe.

Run by the owners of Mavis’ Kitchen in the nap of Mt Warning, you can be assured that this is a destination and an experience.

The views over the Tweed Valley leaning up to Mt Warning are some of my favourite views in the world.

After experiencing the Tweed Regional Gallery and the iconic Margaret Ollie House, slip into the cafe.

As with every excellent cafes, fresh meals accompanied with a lovely wine are on the menu. Great coffee, yummy cakes and gluten free options are also available.

While there be sure to check out my art.

I have a new series Tweed Valley on the wall at very affordable, take home pieces for people who would like a keepsake of their trip and memories.

Be sure to follow me on instagram for daily paintings.

The Bali Art scene is Alive and Well

September 6, 2016 by lorenz Leave a Comment

There is so much to visually feast on in Bali and the art scene is stimulating and exciting. I have  captured some market art, some street art and some artists.

Bali Street Art

Wandering through the streets of Bali, passing rice paddies, cows, children playing, men working, there is so much to see and take in but it would be a shame not to notice the street art. It is beautiful and far from “grafetti” in a vandolism sense.

It is beautiful, heart felt art.

Signs

I am not too sure if it the Balinese Hinduism that comes across so eloquently in the many signs, but all of them seem like little positive affirmation messages from the universe.

These are but a handful from this visit.

Bali is predominantly Hindu and signs express their witty, poignant interpretation of a beautiful faith. I love keeping an eye out for signs.

Market Art

The many markets can offer some incredible art and are definitely worth a look if you are considering taking home a piece.

Artists

Bali is a creative hub and draws in world class artists. Some have their own galleries, others sell on-line and others sell into larger galleries.

I discovered Harry Holiday this trip around in Canguu (his exhibition room is at Deus). With many original funky pieces I found it really hard to settle on three to bring home. Priced really well, you can take home a print or an original lacquered treasure.

Doors and Openings

What can I say? Only a trippy space cadet or architect would notice doors and arch ways and I DO!

Bali has an incredible array of door sizes, door ways, hinges, styles and arches. I am so fascinated with many that I photograph them. Some of them really capture my imagination and I drift off wondering what is behind the door… a fantasy world, a cloud, maybe it’s a door to another dimension. HA, you can see, I am a pixie and love doors. Here are a few from last visit.
